Good Microbreweries To Visit In Melbourne?
« on: August 23, 2013, 08:48:26 AM »
Hi Guys,

Going to Melbourne tomorrow for 5 days. Are there any recommended micro breweries or brew pubs to visit?

I'll be staying at Braybrook and will have a car (and designated driver!)

Cheers

Johno

Not a list of breweries but sorta related in a thread on this forum - Melbourne Beer Must Do's: http://brewadelaide.com/forum/index.php?topic=1603.msg49916#msg49916

Also lifted this link that someone on this forum had posted.
Craft breweries in Victoria: http://www.visitvictoria.com/Activities-and-attractions/Food-and-wine/Craft-breweries.aspx

I have not been to any others than Coldstream - meh, and White Rabbit in Healesville - ok experience drinking amongst the equipment and the beers are ok but very limited in range (probably dark, white and maybe a seasonal or guest tap). Neither are "in" Melbourne though.

If it ain't half off, it ain't on sale!

If you could do one brewery close to Melbourne what would you choose?

I've had a few recommended and  Stomping Ground looks the goods. Heaps of choice including sours and barrel aged darks.

Thought about Mountain Goat and Moon Dog based on recent discussion on here.

Thoughts?

If it must be a brewery then hard to split the three mentioned.
If it's beer variety you're after I might suggest you hit Slow Beer, not a brewery but one hell of a bottlo++

Stomping Ground was fantastic. Only just out of the CBD in Collingwood. Awesome venue and decent beers. 24 beers on tap with a heap of different styles. Very generous pours.

The barrel aged Saison and the IIPA were the standouts for me.
