Where does everyone get grain from around here...?
« on: May 11, 2017, 12:59:09 PM »
Hi All,

My grain supply is starting to get low and just wondering where everyone buys it from now. I used to have a Brew Adelaide grain book, but the shop has been offline for a while now. Beer belly is a long way north and a bit expensive.. When I was in QLD a few years ago I used to go in a AHB bulk buy, but it doesn't seem like that happens much in Adelaide.

Any other options?

Country Brewer in Clovelly Park sells bulk grain (25kg sacks) these days. Simpsons, Joe White etc
Prices vary, but a bag of Simpsons MO will set you back $85. Pretty reasonable IMO.
Also fancies pellicles.

I use Brewmaker in Holden Hill. Bill still runs the store, he was there helping me out as a kit brewer in the late 90s. I bought grain, hops and yeast at reasonable prices.

I'm onto my last sack of base malt at the moment and will be looking at organising another bulk buy in a couple of weeks if there is enough interest.

I would be interested in 2 or 3 sacks if someone started a bulk buy...

I use Brewmaker in Holden Hill. Bill still runs the store, he was there helping me out as a kit brewer in the late 90s. I bought grain, hops and yeast at reasonable prices.
I went in yesterday to buy an emergency pack of yeast. Had a good yarn to Bill, found it hard to get away actually as we got on to the topic of Cooper's Pale. His take is that the water chemistry is important. I like a LHBS that's up for a chat.

His malt is limited (mostly Australian) but he'll mill it and bag it up to recipe. He'll also sell whole sacks for a lot cheaper.

He's also open until 5 on Saturday which is handy. I went in at about 2.30 and there was no one there.

Reckon I'll give him a go next time.
