Final Gravity Hydrometer - where to buy?
« on: August 10, 2017, 11:32:22 AM »
Hey guys

Does anyone know of a place (local or online) where I can buy a final gravity hydrometer. So far I have only seen it on US sites or amazon for a rediculous price.

Its always a bit sad when a keg blows, kinda like losing an old friend.

Have you tried AIM scientific at Prospect? If they dont have one they can probably get one.

Is there a demand for them? I could stock them if i could sell 300 of them.

Well i cater to you fumble fingered guys, but these are a different scale to regular hydrometers, yes?

They cost the same at the same MOQ with different pieces of paper in them, it's not just the final gravity guys ripping people off, you should check out the prices for salinometers for brines at $40 plus.

This is one of the things that shits me and i like to be in business for. i love to see what my pricing does to the pricing of the rip offs.

Off topic but a good getting ripped off story
I bought a 3000w 4 stroke generator from ebay for $500.00 delivered. Went to a camping shop, one of the big ones, and they had the next model down - 2000w for $1299.00 ON SALE would you believe. Identical machine only smaller.
Just another Adelaide brewer

Yep... definitely a rip off.. for that money you can get a 6kW diesel unit.

I get mine from Big W?  They are cheap.
They are shorter and have a smaller range, for final gravity.
I like them because they fit in a pint glass when am drinking....measuring my final grav.

Who knows how accurate they are.
I should probably  test it against my refractometer next time I brew.

In my experience the cheap ones will vary by three or four points. Best to find one you trust and stick with it. I mean the alcometers and hydrometers i sell, not refractometers that i have no experience with.

I agree. I buy mine from AIM scientific. I have 2 with different scales enabling them to have large graduations that are easy to read. Also come with a NATA verified certificate so I know they are accurate. A bit more pricey at about $45 each, but for me the ease of use and accuracy are worth it. Do it once and do it properly.

They have moved a bit further up prospect road, closer to regency. If you haven't been there for a few years.
