Any care to share an Irish red recipe?
« on: December 04, 2017, 04:16:26 PM »
Gday all,

I'm planning my next couple of beers, I'm set on trying a session saison and I'd love to do an Irish red. It's a style I'd never wasted my time trying until I was in the UK this year and quite enjoyed it.

I know there's a few kicking around on the web but just thought I'd see if anyone here has something they'd care to share.

Cheers

94% Maris Otter
5% Med crystal/Gladfields toffee combo
1% Roast barley
Bitter with Fuggles to 20 ibu
Wy1084 Irish ale yeast.
OG: 1.040
FG: 1.010
Mash at 67C

You could go up to 10% crystal if you wanted to. If so maybe mash a touch lower. Some Golden Naked oats in combo with the crystal perhaps to add a creaminess to the mouthfeel.

What's the difference between a Golden Naked and an Uncle Tobys Instant?
Just another Adelaide brewer

Thanks for that mate, I'll try something along those lines

I forgot to ask what would be a good dry yeast to Use? I'm 3 1/2 each way trip to the nearest homebrew store so getting dry yeasts here is a lot easier.
