Msy have some nice laptops at quite reasonable prices. Looks like I'll get change out of $1000 even with the extra coin for MS office and an antivirusand can go the top end of the mainstream laptops. Dell also look good. Don't have the budget for a new Mac nor do I have the mental strength showing my partner how to use one.

Still looking at laptops. Budget has increased to over $1k so now dedicated graphics cards, SSDs are in play. I get graphics cards but SSDs are smaller in capacity so I'm hoping they are faster, more reliable to make up for that?

SSD should boot in next to no time. I find my laptop with a normal HDD works just as well as the surface pro with an SSD, but the surface pro boots in no time. I bought the surface pro to use as a tablet - I prefer my 5 year old galaxy tab as a tablet, but the surface pro is sensational as a laptop. This is what I got in February.

This is the surface pro that I got, although I got the starter pack with the keyboard and mouse. My pen is almost unused, the keyboard and mouse get used constantly. This is a really good piece of kit that I'm hoping should see me through until I finish uni.

No affiliation. I'm a happy customer of both products, although I have found myself wondering several times whether I really need both or not.
I have nothing interesting to add here.

Does anyone know of some software I can set up to scan a webpage on a weekly basis and download the contents of any new links posted on said page?

It would just be text, and the links are up for ~4 weeks before being removed.
My BAC varies but I am always full of shit.

Maybe this one?

Thanks for that Tom - I forgot to mention I'm using Ubuntu but so I can't use Pagenest but I have found some alternatives that might work.

Sorry in any case, the Pagenest site seems to be cactus.

How exactly does cloud storage work? Is everything on my onedrive also on my laptop, surface, and phone? That doesn't make sense given that my onedrive is bigger than my phone hard drive. My surface is saying the hard drive is almost full, but I've hardly put anything on it. I knew that with a 128gb hard drive I would have to be gentle with it, but I didn't expect to fill it up this quickly. Outlook is the other suspect. I think I need to find out how big my Outlook data file is.
I have nothing interesting to add here.

I was having a similar problem with a Lenovo Windows tablet. It was a problem with the Windows updates, it was retaining the previous version/s in memory. Once I sorted out this issue it was all good.

Disk Cleanup. Select Previous Windows Installations.

Just remember that doing this prevents you from rolling back to a previous installation if there is a problem with Windows, which might then require a complete reinstall.

You will soon know if this is the problem, because Disk Cleanup will show you how much space you can recover. In my case it was almost half the SSD.

Hope it works out.

Cheers

Sensational. Hardly anyone is at work today, but my surface is at work. I'll know within 10 minutes if that's the problem I suspect.

Sorted I think. Thank you. I don't think 128gb is enough in hindsight, it's a bit late to be worrying about that now though.

Can you put a micro SD in the surface? I put one in my Asus machine and it lives there permanently giving me another 65gb to store stuff.

You're a fucking genius! I was about to reply and say no, but I figured I'd google it first. There's an SD card slot behind the kickstand. I never would've known it was there if you didn't ask. Thank you.

Don't rely on sd cards, they can be unreliable. Make sure you have backups of whatever is on your sd card.

Agree with Vortex on this. However you have a MS computer so back up to MS Drive. Also, be aware of what you buy off the internet, SD cards can easily fool, showing they are 64gb when they are not. Buy a quality brand from Harvey Norman.

I thought I could fix a problem with Outlook by uninstalling Office 365 and then reinstalling it. I now can't install office. I've restarted my computer about a billionty times, and I don't think I'm any closer to getting it to work. Does anyone know how I might get it to work? It's a Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 10.

have you tried starting it up in safe mode? or refreshing back to an earlier known working version, say  a month ago?
